The Distinguished Student Scholarship
(DSS) is a concrete embodiment of the conviction of the late UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan (May Allah
bestow mercy upon him) that "A country’s greatest investment lies in building generations of educated and knowledgeable youth." Continuing under Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, this far-reaching vision promotes the development of the country through higher education.
The Scholarships Office (SCO) was created in 1999 under the direct supervision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan,
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential
Affairs. Each year, outstanding Emirati
students are selected to travel abroad in pursuit of their education at prestigious, international universities.
Students are selected
into one of two scholarships administered by the
SCO; the original
Distinguished Student Scholarship (DSS)
and the Study
Abroad Scholarship Program (SASP). By means
of these prestigious scholarships, a new generation of Emirati
youth are being trained in various disciplines to
contribute to the development of their country.
